Event Description

The trail run course is a perimeter loop of the Lynch Canyon Open Space. The route, comprised of about 85% wide track and 15% single track will take runners along the North Ridge Trail and Prairie Ridge Trail with outstanding views of the Napa Valley, San Francisco Bay, Mt. Tamalpais, and Mt. Diablo. 10K and Half Marathon runners will experience approximately 1,500 ft and 3,000 ft of elevation gain respectively. These courses are considered by many to be the most challenging trail runs in Solano County.

The event also includes a FREE 2.5 mile community hike with about 400 ft of elevation gain. We’ve included this event to encourage everyone to participate and enjoy some great outdoor recreation that Solano County has to offer (on a less challenging route).

Event proceeds will be used for the improvement of Lynch Canyon and promoting the use of it’s open space for healthy living. Lynch Canyon is owned by The Solano Land Trust, a non-profit organization that preserves and protects open space in Solano County.

Event Goals

The Lynch Canyon Trail Run and Community Hike has five major goals:

1. To increase the awareness and appreciation of open space, parks, and other outdoor recreation within Solano County.

2. To create a high quality and unique destination event that will draw trail runners and outdoor enthusiasts from Solano County and adjacent communities.

3. To provide proceeds for the improvement of Lynch Canyon and promoting the use of it’s open space for healthy living.

4. To support Solano County’s “Healthy Children - Healthy Communities” initiative.

5. To provide a challenging and competitive event for serious athletes and options for recreational and casual participants.

Registered Participants,

We are only a few days away from the 2009 Lynch Canyon Trail Run held on Saturday May 30th at 8am. Before I give you some last minute details, I want to thank our fantastic organizing team. Teri Engbring, Eldrith Gosney, Buzz Higgins, Jim Reikowsky, Todd Rewick and Eric Simoni have contribitued a lot of their personal time, resources, and community contacts to make this event happen - thanks team! I also want to acknowledge our fantastic group of sponsors that donated cash, equipment, services and prizes for our participants. Please see our event website for the complete list of sponsors. Finally, a special thanks to the nearly 50 volunteers that will assemble on race day to make your experience as fun and safe as possible. If you have the energy as you run by, give them a nod and a smile for their efforts!

OK, some reminders:

1. Online registration closed at midnight on Monday the 25th. If you have any friends that want to join you at the event, we only have race day registration or they can register in person at Fleet Feet Vacaville prior to race day. Remember, if you have "non running" friends, we offer a FREE 2.5 mile community hike that includes a summit certificate and kids award at the halfway point. Normally it costs $5 to park at Lynch Canyon, on this day, we are picking up the tab for everyone! What a great way to anyone get out and be part of the fesitivities.

2. Packet pickup will be race morning for all participants. We will have a "pre-reg", "race day reg", and "hiker" registration lines. Pre registered runners will just need to pick up their pre labeled number and tshirt. For race day registration, cash and check will be accepted (no credit cards).

3. Arrive early and carpool if possible. We should have enough parking, but this event draws more people than the standard parking lot for Lynch Canyon holds. We created two overflow parking sites last year. One was completely filled and the other was getting close to filling. The gates open at 6:30 for participants.

4. Be prepared. We had freakishly warm weather last year. While the extended forecast is predicting nice race day conditions this year, you should check weather conditions before race day and be prepared for anything. A nice feature of this race is that your car is going to be located no further than 50 yards or so from the start/finish area, so you can bring as much as you want and make last minute adjustments right before the starting gun.

5. The course consists of a loop around the open space area. 10K runners will have 3 evenly spaced aid stations on course and final refreshments at the finish. Half Marathoners will have 7 evenly spaced aid stations on course and final refreshments at the finish. Powerbar calorie drink will be available around mile 3ish, 6ish, and 9ish. Water and calorie drink will be provided in cups on course. Please feel free to bring your own hydration system if you prefer.

We're really looking forward to seeing you on race day!
